India and Mauritius Sign Key Agreements in Science, Technology and Space

India and Mauritius signed several memorandums of understanding on Thursday to expand cooperation in science, technology, energy, governance and space. The agreements were finalised during bilateral talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Mauritius Prime Minister Dr Navinchandra Ramgoolam in Varanasi.

The department of science and technology of India signed an MoU with the ministry of tertiary education, science and research of Mauritius to strengthen collaboration in scientific research and innovation. Another agreement was signed between the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research National Institute of Oceanography and the Mauritius Oceanography Institute to enhance cooperation in marine studies.

Karmayogi Bharat, under the department of personnel and training, also signed an MoU with the ministry of public service and administrative reforms of Mauritius to support governance reforms. Other agreements covered the power sector, Indian grant assistance for Phase II of Small Development Projects and the renewal of an MoU on hydrography, according to a government statement.

A significant development was the signing of an agreement for setting up a telemetry, tracking and telecommunications station for satellites and launch vehicles, along with collaboration in space research and applications.

Further announcements included an MoU between IIT Madras and the University of Mauritius and another between the Indian Institute of Plantation Management, Bengaluru, and the University of Mauritius to strengthen academic ties.

Both nations also agreed to move forward with a government-to-government proposal for a 17.5 MW floating solar PV project at Tamarind Falls. A team from NTPC Ltd will soon visit Mauritius to work with the Central Electricity Board to finalise the agreement, the release said.

These partnerships highlight a strong focus on science, technology and renewable energy as both countries aim to deepen strategic cooperation for sustainable growth and innovation.
