IN-SPACe launches RFP to build Antariksh Prayogshala across academic zones

The Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe) has issued a request for proposal to establish Antariksh Prayogshala or Space Labs at selected academic institutions across India. The initiative aims to strengthen the space technology ecosystem by offering hands on training to students and encouraging closer industry academia collaboration.

Under the plan, IN-SPACe will select up to 7 institutions in a phased manner. One space lab is proposed in each zone of the country to ensure balanced regional representation. These labs will also be accessible to non government entities operating within their respective zones.

To support the initiative, IN-SPACe will provide financial assistance of up to 75% of the total project cost, with a cap of ₹5 crore per institution. The funding will be released in stages and linked to the achievement of specific milestones. The primary focus of the labs will be to deliver practical training for students enrolled in space technology courses across academic institutions in India.

Vinod Kumar, director for promotion directorate at IN-SPACe, said the RFP has been rolled out “as part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen the country’s space technology ecosystem and build future ready talent”. He added that Antariksh Prayogshala is “̉̉intended to enable meaningful industry–academia collaboration, and support India’s long term vision of becoming a leading global space economy.”

The selection process will follow a 2 stage approach. In the first stage, institutions will be screened based on the eligibility criteria mentioned in the RFP. Shortlisted applicants will then be evaluated and ranked by an Empowered Committee. Final selections will be made on a zone wise basis.
