IN-SPACe backs 3 Indian startups to build small satellite platforms

Taking another step toward strengthening India’s private space ecosystem, IN-SPACe has selected 3 domestic startups to design and develop small satellite bus platforms under a new national programme.

Astrome Technologies, Azista Industries, and Dhruva Space have been chosen for the initiative. Each startup will receive ₹5 crore in milestone-linked grants through the Satellite Bus as a Service (SBaaS) programme.

Launched in 2025, the SBaaS initiative allows selected startups to access ISRO’s facilities along with financial support to build modular satellite bus platforms. These platforms are designed to host multiple payloads and are aimed at serving both domestic and global markets.

The programme focuses on creating cost-effective and standardised satellite buses. By doing so, it seeks to reduce entry barriers for payload developers and make satellite missions faster and more affordable. The approach is expected to help smaller innovators enter the space sector without having to build satellite platforms from scratch.

Commenting on the development, IN-SPACe Chairman Pawan Goenka said the selection marks an important step towards building a strong, sustainable, and globally competitive small satellite manufacturing ecosystem in India.

IN-SPACe Director Rajeev Jyoti said standardised satellite platforms would lower barriers for new payload developers and encourage more innovators to participate in the growing space economy.

The SBaaS programme is positioned as a key enabler for India’s commercial space ambitions, with a focus on scalability, efficiency, and global competitiveness in small satellite manufacturing.
