IMC 2025: India’s indigenous 4G stack ready for exports, says Prime Minister Narendra Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday announced that India’s “Made-in-India” 4G stack is ready for exports, highlighting the country’s growing presence in global technology markets. Speaking at the inaugural event of the India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2025, PM Modi said the development and deployment of the indigenous 4G stack reflects the strength of India’s “Atmanirbhar Bharat” vision and the progress of the telecom sector over the last 10 years.

“The new 4G stack is expected to provide faster internet speeds, more reliable services, and seamless connectivity, further strengthening India’s technological edge,” he said. Recently, PM Modi launched nearly 1 lakh towers for state-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), which will provide fourth-generation-backed high-speed mobile services to consumers, including in rural and remote regions.

He noted that the milestone has attracted global attention and shows India’s capability in deploying telecom infrastructure on a large scale. “The country has come a long way. Today, we have 5G coverage in every corner,” PM Modi said, recalling the days when consumers struggled with 2G connectivity.

India’s top private telecom operators — Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, and Vodafone Idea — provide commercial fifth-generation or 5G services. The IMC inauguration was attended by senior government officials and top telecom industry executives, including Union Minister for Communications Jyotiraditya Scindia, Minister of State Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, DoT Secretary Neeraj Mittal, Reliance Jio Chairman Akash Ambani, Bharti Enterprises Chairman Sunil Mittal, Bharti Airtel Vice Chairman Gopal Vittal, Vodafone Idea CEO Abhijit Kishore, BSNL CMD Robert J Ravi, and C-DoT CEO Rajkumar Upadhyay.

PM Modi highlighted India’s rapid digital progress over the past decade, noting that 1GB of wireless data now costs less than a cup of tea. “Digital connectivity in India is no longer a privilege or a luxury. It is now an integral part of every Indian’s life,” he said. India has the world’s fastest-growing developer population and is the second-largest telecom and 5G market globally.

He also pointed out nation’s achievements in electronics and mobile manufacturing, with production growing six times since 2014, mobile manufacturing increasing 28 times, and exports rising 127 times. PM Modi emphasised the role of startups and innovation in driving India’s telecom and technology growth. “Schemes like Digital Innovation Square and the Telecom Technology Development Fund are providing funding and support to nurture new ideas,” he added.
