The International Criminal Court (ICC) announced today that it was subjected to an “advanced and targeted” cyberattack late last week. The Hague-based court confirmed that its internal warning systems swiftly detected, confirmed, and contained the intrusion, thereby limiting its overall impact.
The ICC stated that it is currently conducting a comprehensive, organization-wide impact analysis to ascertain the full extent of the breach and is actively implementing measures to mitigate any potential consequences.
This incident marks the second significant cyber intrusion against the ICC in two years. The institution previously faced an “unprecedented” espionage attempt in September 2023.Â
The perpetrator behind the current sophisticated attack remains unknown. The ICC continues to prioritize the security of its digital infrastructure and sensitive information in the face of persistent and evolving cyber threats.
