IBM has said it is in a strong position to support the rapid growth of artificial intelligence, hybrid cloud and quantum technology adoption among government bodies and enterprises in India. The company believes the country’s increasing digitisation is creating major technology opportunities.
Sandip Patel, Managing Director of IBM India and South Asia, said, “We are in a unique position in India, given the GDP growth that we are seeing in India, and the digitisation that is happening, not just in private enterprises, but also what the government is doing.” He added that the company’s technology portfolio is “uniquely positioned to help both enterprises and public sector entities with AI, hybrid cloud, and quantum.”
Patel explained that IBM’s on premise solutions allow organisations to shift to a cost efficient cloud environment while staying aligned with local regulations. He said the company will work with both existing and new clients who want to move mission critical workloads and applications to the cloud but have concerns about data residency and India’s regulatory changes.
He also stated that IBM is in discussions with several ministries and regulators regarding data sovereignty matters. “We believe that these regulations will continue to evolve, and this is where our offering becomes more and more relevant even for government and other regulated entities,” Patel said.
Earlier this month, IBM partnered with Bharti Airtel to launch a solution for regulated industries in India including banking, healthcare and government services. The collaboration combines IBM’s hybrid cloud and AI technologies, including IBM Power11 servers, with Bharti Airtel’s data resident cloud. The partnership aims to support faster AI adoption and ensure compliance with Indian rules, while giving access to IBM software as a service offerings.
The company, led by Arvind Krishna, plans to continue its focus on hybrid cloud adoption and scaling AI and automation. IBM is also looking to contribute to India’s semiconductor and quantum technology missions.
