Hyderabad’s Growing GCC Network Accelerates Telangana’s $1 Trillion Economy Goal

Telangana is fast becoming a key destination for Global Capability Centres, as Hyderabad strengthens its position as a technology and innovation hub. The IT and ITeS sectors are playing a major role in supporting the state’s $1 trillion economy vision.

At the recently held GCC X Summit, industry leaders and government officials highlighted the rapid progress Hyderabad has made in attracting and growing Global Capability Centres.

Major Developments

In the current financial year, over 70 new GCCs have been added in Hyderabad, pushing the total number past 225. The state has set a clear goal to double this number by 2030. Telangana’s innovation-led approach and business-friendly policies are drawing the interest of global enterprises across industries.

Global Capability Centres in the state are now shifting from traditional support roles to becoming drivers of cutting-edge technology. These centres are actively working in areas such as artificial intelligence, quantum computing, and biotechnology.

There is also a strong focus on promoting inclusive growth, with higher participation of women in the workforce and diversity-focused hiring strategies.

Innovation at the Core

GCCs in Telangana are leading important advancements in the following areas:

  • Artificial intelligence and machine learning

  • Cybersecurity and cloud infrastructure

  • Digital transformation in life sciences

  • Quantum computing and other new technologies

  • End-to-end product engineering

Industry experts noted that GCCs based in Hyderabad now hold strategic responsibilities for global product development, going beyond back-office operations.

Voices from Leadership

Jayesh Ranjan, Principal Secretary of IT and Industries for the Government of Telangana, stated, “GCCs are not just economic contributors but the backbone of Telangana’s innovation and employment mission.”

Former IT Minister K. T. Rama Rao, in a pre-recorded message, said, “The state’s progressive data policies, innovation hubs, and skill development initiatives have made Telangana a magnet for global R and D.”

Global Companies Expanding in Hyderabad

Many multinational companies from countries such as the United States, Germany, Japan, and the United Kingdom have either established or expanded their GCC operations in Hyderabad.

Some of the recent names include:

  • Eli Lilly in life sciences

  • Dai-ichi Life in insurance

  • SAP and Novartis, which have expanded their presence

These GCCs are now serving as central hubs for digital transformation projects for their global operations.

Economic Impact and Future Plans

GCCs currently contribute over 35 percent of Telangana’s total IT exports. Job creation within these centres has grown by 20 percent year on year. The main sectors seeing this growth include healthcare, banking and financial services, insurance, retail, pharmaceuticals, and telecom.

Looking ahead, the state plans to launch a dedicated GCC innovation cluster near Hyderabad Pharma City to support further expansion and collaboration in key sectors.

Conclusion

The growth of Global Capability Centres in Hyderabad is shaping the future of Telangana’s economy. With strong government support, an innovation-friendly environment, and a skilled workforce, Telangana is leading the next phase of digital and industrial development through its expanding GCC ecosystem.
