Hyderabad cybercrime removes 124 social media accounts promoting online betting

Authorities in Hyderabad have intensified action against illegal online betting promotions circulating on social media. The Hyderabad Cybercrime Wing has identified and removed 124 social media profiles that were allegedly promoting betting and gaming platforms through large-scale advertisements.

Officials said the action followed a month-long monitoring effort that involved continuous digital surveillance and intelligence-based tracking. During this period, investigators detected 539 paid advertisements spread across multiple social media platforms.

“These ads promoted online betting and gaming applications and were aimed at users in India, particularly targeting youth by promising easy money, bonuses and referral commissions,” said a senior official from the Cybercrime Wing.

According to the police, the accounts shared promotional posts, referral links, and inducement-based schemes designed to attract users into unlawful wagering activities. The content was aimed at encouraging participation by offering financial incentives and rewards.

After identifying the profiles, the cybercrime officials reported them to the respective social media platforms. Following the complaint, all 124 accounts were taken down to prevent further spread of such promotional content.

Police said the action is part of a broader effort to monitor and curb the growing presence of illegal betting promotions online. Authorities are continuing surveillance to identify similar activities and take necessary action to protect users from unlawful digital schemes.
