The Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police arrested 48 individuals from eight different States for their involvement in cyber fraud cases across the country. These individuals were linked to 415 cybercrime cases, including 78 registered in Telangana. Authorities have successfully refunded ₹2.2 crore to victims as part of the investigation.
Among those arrested, six were involved in digital arrest frauds, twenty-one were linked to investment and trading scams, and the remaining twenty-one were charged with various other cyber offences. The arrests were based on 301 complaints filed through the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal. Out of these, 179 FIRs were registered at cybercrime police stations, while 90 were filed with the assistance of Zonal Cyber Cells in other police stations.
The accused were connected to cases in several States, including 16 in Andhra Pradesh, 19 in Delhi, 24 in Gujarat, 72 in Karnataka, 23 in Maharashtra, 27 in Tamil Nadu, 60 in West Bengal, and 78 in Telangana.
During the operations, police seized 89 mobile phones, 56 cheque books, 94 debit cards, 3 laptops, 12 shell company stamps, 25 SIM cards, 39 bank passbooks, 2 tablets, visiting cards and ₹1 lakh in cash.
Authorities also reported refunds across various fraud categories, including ₹5.15 crore in investment scams, ₹9.64 lakh in trading frauds, ₹3.58 lakh in OTP scams, and ₹14.25 crore in impersonation-related cases.
In one major case, a businessman lost ₹1.11 crore in a fake import-export deal involving a non-existent Hong Kong-based company. The accused, Para Singla, was arrested after being introduced by Lakshya Verma of a private firm based in New Delhi.
In another case, a 76-year-old woman from Secunderabad was targeted in a digital arrest scam. She was falsely informed that she was involved in a human trafficking case and was coerced into transferring ₹40.5 lakh. The accused, Sourav S. from Chitradurga, Karnataka, was arrested. Items seized from him included two mobile phones, five cheque books, ten debit and credit cards, three company stamps and visiting cards.
Further investigation is ongoing.
