Google’s plans to launch an Android based personal computer have sparked discussion, with Huawei suggesting that its own HarmonyOS may influence the new platform.
Zhu DongDong, President of Huawei Consumer Business Tablet and PC Product Line, said Google’s move into developing a self built computer operating system appears inspired by HarmonyOS. Huawei was the first company to launch an independent operating system for PCs, and Google now seems to be taking a similar path.
Speaking about Android PC, Zhu said the Pixel phone ecosystem could evolve into something similar to Huawei’s self developed computer operating system.
“I’ve looked at some of the definitions and ideas of Google’s Android PC, and it seems like we’ve already done it all. I don’t know if they will refer to the HarmonyOS computer operating system when designing the Android PC, but I guess they probably will.”
Zhu also pointed out that while Apple has announced future touchscreen support for MacBook, Huawei has offered touchscreen enabled PCs since the Windows era, and at a large scale. Touchscreens are now a standard feature in HarmonyOS PCs, and Huawei has continued to improve the technology.
Google has confirmed that it plans to launch the Android PC in 2026. The company has also been reported to be working with Qualcomm to use X Elite chips for its upcoming generation of PCs.
Whether Google’s Android PC will closely resemble HarmonyOS or whether similarities are coincidental will become clearer once the product is officially launched.
