In a bold step ahead of Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Honor has shared new details about its upcoming “Robot phone,” a device featuring a movable camera arm. The company first teased the concept earlier this year and now says it plans to launch the device in the second half of this year. The highlight is a robotic camera system that can respond to situations without direct commands.
According to Honor, the robot phone has a “personality.” It can react with “head shakes” and even dance to the beat of music. Users can interact with the assistant through text and voice. In a demo video, a person asked for apparel suggestions and the robot responded by nodding or shaking to recommend an outfit. The company says this interactive behavior is designed to make the device feel more natural and engaging.
The phone is equipped with a 200-megapixel camera mounted on a moving robot 3-axis gimbal with stabilization technology. Honor said the camera can rotate smoothly to capture steady photos and videos. It also includes a Super Steady mode for video recording. The Spinshot feature allows the robotic camera to rotate by 90 or 180 degrees to create cinematic shots. For video calls, the robotic camera supports AI-powered object tracking, enabling it to follow users more fluidly, similar to advanced subject-tracking systems.
Honor revealed that it developed its own micro motor to control the robotic camera’s movements. The company used techniques from foldable phone engineering to ensure durability and to fit the 4-degree-of-freedom gimbal system inside the phone body. The robotic arm uses the same materials as the hinge of the Honor Magic V6, offering 2800 MPa tensile strength. At the same event, Honor also introduced the Honor Magic V6 foldable with a 6600 mAh battery, the Honor MagicPad 4 tablet and the Honor MagicBook 14 laptop.
