Honda Appoints Takashi Nakajima as new President & CEO of Honda Cars India

Honda Cars India Ltd (HCIL) has confirmed that Takashi Nakajima will assume the role of President and CEO starting April 1, 2025. This appointment is part of Honda Motor Co.’s annual management reshuffle.

Nakajima will replace Takuya Tsumura, who is set to return to Japan after completing a successful three-year tenure in India. With over 30 years at Honda, Nakajima has held key positions across various global markets, including Japan, China, Spain, the Czech Republic, and most recently, as the President of Honda Motor Russia since 2021.

Tsumura’s leadership has been instrumental in shaping HCIL’s growth and strengthening its premium brand presence in India. Notable achievements under his watch include the launch of several high-end models like “India’s first mainstream hybrid model, the Honda City e:HEV,” the global SUV Honda Elevate, and the 3rd Generation Honda Amaze. Additionally, he laid the groundwork for Honda’s first Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) set to debut in India.

Tsumura also helped boost HCIL’s export business, notably starting exports of the Elevate SUV from India to Japan. His tenure saw impressive financial growth, with HCIL achieving a 16% year-on-year revenue increase, totaling Rs 16,461 crore—a six-year high. Profit before tax rose by 25% to Rs 1,029 crore, while total sales increased by 8.8%, reaching 124,244 units. Exports soared by 65.4%, totaling 37,660 units.

The leadership transition comes as Honda prepares to embark on its electrification journey in India. The company plans to roll out its first BEV based on the Elevate SUV, along with two hybrid models in the next financial year. Additionally, Honda is working on the ACE (Asian Compact Electric) project, a compact EV expected to launch next year with a significant portion aimed for export markets.
