Amid rising cybersecurity concerns, Hasbro has confirmed a cyberattack after detecting unauthorised access to its systems on March 28.
The American toymaker, known for brands like Transformers and Peppa Pig, disclosed the incident in a regulatory filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). As a precaution, the company took parts of its infrastructure offline while it began investigating the breach.
In its filing, Hasbro stated that it identified the intrusion and took immediate action against the intruder. The company has also engaged an external cyber agency to handle the situation and is working on “implement(ing) measures to secure its business operations.”
The exact nature of the attack is still unclear. It has not yet been confirmed whether the incident involved ransomware or data theft. Hasbro also said it is still assessing if any sensitive data has been accessed or compromised.
A notice on the company’s website indicates that it is currently under maintenance, suggesting that some services remain affected due to the breach.
Despite the disruption, Hasbro has activated its business continuity plans. The company said it continues to process orders, ship products, and maintain key operations during this period.
However, it has cautioned investors that these temporary arrangements may need to remain in place for several weeks until the issue is fully resolved, highlighting the potential long-term impact of the cyberattack on its operations.
