Haryana Police block 36 per cent of cyber fraud money in 2025

Haryana Police secured the first position in the country in blocking money lost to cybercrime in 2025, according to data from the national cyber reporting portal. The state managed to block around 36 per cent of the total cyber fraud amount in time, offering significant relief to citizens. The second ranked state recorded a recovery rate of only 27 per cent.

In a statement, Haryana Police said this gap highlights the speed, technology driven approach, and effectiveness of the state’s cyber policing system. The police also reported that coordinated and strict action during 2025 led to a 36 per cent reduction in overall financial losses from cyber fraud.

Director General of Police Ajay Singhal shared the force’s roadmap for 2026, stating that the fight against cybercrime will become more technology empowered, citizen focused, and result oriented. He said the achievements of 2025 reflect a strong base, and the focus in 2026 will be on dismantling cybercriminal networks at the root using artificial intelligence, data analytics, real time coordination with banks, and proactive intelligence.

He added that the priority will not be limited to action after a crime has occurred. Preventing cybercrime, blocking fraud amounts in time, and providing quick relief to victims will remain key goals. He expressed confidence that Haryana will emerge as a model state in cyber security in 2026.

During 2025, Haryana Police received 1,41,685 cybercrime complaints, an increase of 8.5 per cent compared to 2024. With a 12.7 per cent rise in case registrations, 6,212 cybercrime cases were formally registered. Police also registered 356 cases through suo motu action, marking a sharp rise of 62.6 per cent.

On enforcement, 8,022 cybercriminals were arrested during the year, averaging 22 arrests per day. These actions directly contributed to reducing the total cyber fraud amount from Rs 980 crore to Rs 630 crore. This marks a reduction of Rs 350 crore, or 36 per cent, which translates to savings of nearly Rs 1 crore per day.

At the start of 2025, Haryana Police implemented a five point strategy to disrupt the entire cybercrime ecosystem. Under this effort, over 1.5 lakh mobile numbers, 12,326 IMEI numbers, and 5,123 fake websites and social media accounts were blocked. Police also identified and froze 3.54 lakh mule bank accounts used for fraud. In addition, 91 suspicious bank branches were flagged, and 62 bank officials were arrested.
