Hackers Targeted Washington Post Journalists’ Email Accounts says sources

A person familiar with the situation told Reuters on Sunday that the Washington Post is looking into a hack on several of its journalists’ email accounts.

A few journalists may have been the victims of an unlawful targeted intrusion, according to the source. The breach was initially revealed by the Wall Street Journal, which speculated that a foreign government could have been responsible.

The Washington Post staff was informed that the attacks penetrated writers’ Microsoft (MSFT.O) accounts, opened new tab accounts, and may have allowed the hacker access to work emails, according to the article.

According to the article, several of the reporters who write about China were among the members of the national security and economic policy teams whose emails were targeted.

The inquiry was started after the breach was found on Thursday, according to an internal message from Matt Murray, executive editor of the Washington Post, as reported by the WSJ.

In 2022, digital attackers penetrated News Corp (NWSA.O), the company that publishes the Wall Street Journal, and opened a new tab. In that event, the data and email accounts of an unknown number of journalists were hacked.
