The Gurugram Police have arrested two men for allegedly tricking people into opening bank accounts under the pretext of providing jobs and later selling those accounts to cyber criminals.
The accused, identified as Rahul (26) from Nawada in Bihar and Amir Hussain alias Amit (29) from West Bengal, were arrested on Monday. Police said the duo sold more than 100 bank accounts to cyber thugs, charging Rs 10,000 for each account.
During the arrest, officials seized eight mobile phones, seven ATM cards, two chequebooks and 15 SIM cards from their possession.
The case began when a man filed a complaint on August 30. He stated that he had met a person named Kuldeep, who introduced him to Rahul, also known as Abhiram. Kuldeep told the complainant that Rahul helps needy people secure jobs but requires a bank account for the process. The complainant was then taken to Bajghera village, where Rahul and another associate opened a bank account using his Aadhaar and PAN card.
“After this, Kuldeep said the account has been opened and asked me to collect the documents later,” the complainant told police. When the accused refused to return his documents and informed him that the account had been handed over to Rahul, the victim approached the police.
Based on the complaint, an FIR was registered at the Cyber Crime police station in West Gurugram, which led to the arrest of the two men.
According to a police spokesperson, “The accused revealed that they have opened more than 100 bank accounts by creating 50 fake email IDs and sold each account to their associates for Rs 10,000. They open bank accounts for poor and needy people by luring them with the promise of getting them jobs. After KYC, they keep the bank details and sell the accounts to another partner for Rs 10,000.”
Both accused are currently in judicial custody.
