Gurugram Police Arrest Man Linked to 85 Cybercrime Cases

Police have arrested a 33-year-old man in Gurugram’s IT Park for allegedly running a fake manpower recruitment company involved in multiple cybercrime cases.

The accused, identified as Muneer Khan, also known as Sahil Sharma, has been linked to 85 cybercrime complaints reported from across the country.

The investigation began after a theft complaint was filed on May 22, in which a stolen iPhone was connected to the complainant’s bank account. On May 26, a duplicate SIM card was obtained, and the complainant later received alerts for nine unauthorised UPI transactions worth Rs 3.98 lakh.

Police found that Rs 1 lakh from the defrauded amount was first transferred to an account in Telangana and then moved to another account under the name of Meraaki Manpower Services Private Limited. KYC verification revealed that the company’s registered address had been vacated.

Following sustained surveillance, officers traced the firm’s operations to Gurugram and arrested Khan, a resident of Asoti village in Haryana’s Palwal district. Khan, a Class 12 graduate, had previously been arrested in a rape case in Uttam Nagar and spent around four and a half years in judicial custody.

According to police, Khan set up the recruitment firm with associates named Shubham, Mukim and Munjir to channel cybercrime proceeds through multiple current accounts opened under the company’s name.

During the raid, police recovered 200 cheques from four banks and four debit cards connected to accounts suspected of being used in fraudulent transactions.

Data from the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal linked the company’s accounts to 85 cybercrime complaints from various parts of India, involving amounts running into lakhs of rupees. Authorities are currently assessing the total value of the fraudulent transactions.

Efforts are underway to locate Khan’s associates and gather further evidence.
