The Gurugram Police’s cyber crime unit has apprehended six individuals involved in defrauding citizens across India, with a total of 1,923 complaints amounting to Rs 8.26 crore, as reported on Monday.
The suspects have been named as Tej Parkash, Tohfiq, Deepak, Vikas, Vikaram, and Rajesh Sharma. An official stated that these arrests were made by the Cyber Crime Police Station team in connection with various cases.
Authorities revealed that an analysis of five mobile phones and four SIM cards seized from the suspects, in collaboration with the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Center (I4C), indicated their involvement in fraud totaling approximately Rs 8.26 crore, with 1,923 complaints filed against them nationwide.
The police noted that 78 cases have been registered across the country, including seven in Haryana, four of which were in Gurugram.
“The accused used to dupe people via Instagram, digital arrest and online work from home. The police also recovered SIM cards and mobile phones used in the crime,” Priyanshu Diwan, ACP, (cyber crime) said.
Further investigations are ongoing, utilizing information gathered from the devices confiscated from the arrested individuals. Diwan emphasized that the Gurugram Police’s cyber crime teams are actively pursuing necessary actions against cyber criminals and are collaborating closely with various agencies and organizations to combat these fraudulent activities.
“We appealed to the public to steer clear of such dubious callers and advised caution in sharing personal details with strangers stalking them online. The cyber fraudsters commit fraud by luring people with good profits, investing in the stock market, share market, in the name of buying/selling cheap goods online, sextorting through video calls on WhatsApp, morphing, sending links through various means, telegram, posing as a customs officer/police officer in the name of implicating false case, in the name of issuing a No-Objection Certificate, digitally arresting people by showing the fear of implicating them in a criminal case” he said.
