Gujarat secures ₹1,600 crore semiconductor investments from global and domestic players

In a major boost to its electronics ambitions, Gujarat has attracted investment proposals worth over ₹1,600 crore to strengthen its semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem. The announcements reflect rising interest from Japanese and South Korean companies in the state’s growing electronics sector.

The investments cover manufacturing units, specialty chemicals, equipment production, R&D centres, and advanced technology startups.

Japan’s Horiba Group, through Horiba India Pvt Ltd, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Gujarat government to establish a dedicated R&D centre in Ahmedabad. The centre will focus on semiconductor-grade mass-flow controllers and advanced instrumentation.

Malaysia-based Hotayi Electronic, which produces SSDs and memory modules, signed an agreement to set up a ₹250 crore electronics manufacturing facility at Sanand GIDC. The unit is expected to generate employment for 1,000 persons and will supply high-precision components for semiconductor and allied industries.

The proposals were formalised during the Gujarat Semiconnect conference held in Gandhinagar.

Hi-Spec Ltd will invest ₹750 crore to establish a facility for semiconductor-grade hydrofluoric acid, a key chemical used in wafer processing. Meanwhile, Kiansh International Technologies, in collaboration with a South Korean firm, will invest ₹25 crore to manufacture gas abatement systems and scrubbers for the semiconductor and solar sectors.

Strengthening the value chain further, Japanese chipmaker Rohm Semiconductor has partnered with Gujarat-based Suchi Semicon to serve domestic and global markets, adding IC packaging and test solutions to the local ecosystem.

Additionally, Kaynes Semicon, a subsidiary of Kaynes Technology India Ltd, has committed ₹500 crore to Ahmedabad-based startup SpectraGaze Systems. The investment will advance capabilities in outer-space imaging and semiconductor technologies.

These investments aim to build a resilient, end-to-end semiconductor ecosystem in Gujarat, covering raw materials, chemicals, advanced instrumentation, R&D, and high-tech innovation. The surge complements ongoing large-scale projects that have already positioned Gujarat on the global semiconductor map.
