Elon Musk has announced that the next major upgrade to the Grok 4 artificial intelligence model will arrive within a month. Called Grok 4.20, this version is expected to introduce new capabilities and show noticeable performance improvements. The model reportedly appeared quietly on the Alpha Arena platform and was said to perform far better than its competitors. Since xAI released the Grok 4.1 update in November, this upcoming release will be one of the company’s fastest turnarounds.
In a post on X, Elon Musk wrote, “Grok 4.20 is coming out in 3 or 4 weeks.” As we are in the second week of December, the model could be released in the final week of December or the first week of January. This suggests that xAI is accelerating its development cycle.
Recently, several users on X shared screenshots showing an unknown AI model on the Alpha Arena platform, believed to be Grok 4.20. Alpha Arena is a stock trading simulation platform that tests an AI model’s reasoning and analytical skills by using real market data. Each model starts with 10000 dollars and is given two weeks to make profits based on actual stock prices.
Grok 4.20 reportedly took part in the season 1.5 competition and surpassed every other model, including GPT 5.1 and Gemini 3 Pro. It not only won the challenge but also delivered a 12 percent profit on the initial amount. Competing models from Google and OpenAI recorded losses.
These early results indicate that the upcoming model may offer stronger reasoning abilities and faster handling of real world data. xAI has not shared more details about the model, and more information will be known only after its official launch.
Separately, Grok 4.1 Fast reached a new milestone on a common API listing platform by processing 1.16 trillion tokens in a week. It was used more than Claude 4.5 Sonnet, Claude 4.5 Opus and Gemini 3 Pro. However, since the platform is a third party service that sells API credits, this ranking may not accurately reflect the true popularity of these models.
