Government introduces eSushrut@Clinic platform to digitise small healthcare facilities

India’s digital healthcare network is expanding with a new government initiative aimed at supporting small and mid-sized clinics across the country. National Health Authority has launched a free digital platform called eSushrut@Clinic to help healthcare providers manage patient services and connect with the national digital health ecosystem.

The platform has been developed by Centre for Development of Advanced Computing as a Software-as-a-Service solution. It is designed as a simplified and cost-effective alternative to traditional hospital information management systems typically used by large hospitals.

The system is integrated with the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission and enables clinics to become part of the country’s digital healthcare framework. Officials said the initiative aims to act as a government-backed digital entry point for small clinics, similar to how BHIM supported the expansion of digital payments in India.

One of the key features of the platform is a Smart Assistant equipped with a Clinical Decision Support System. This tool helps doctors manage chronic diseases by providing evidence-based treatment guidance and supporting better clinical decisions.

The platform also allows clinics to digitise patient records, manage appointments, and streamline consultations. Additional features include patient registration, OPD management, dashboards, scheduling, and user administration through a web-based interface.

The initiative is significant because smaller healthcare facilities represent nearly 90% of India’s roughly 2 million hospital beds. The system is also expected to support the digitisation of the country’s healthcare infrastructure, which includes around 70,000 hospitals, with more than 43,000 belonging to the private sector.

Healthcare experts believe the platform could improve medical services by enabling doctors to access patient records with consent and coordinate treatment across multiple healthcare providers.

The launch also addresses the increasing burden of non-communicable diseases in India. Conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, and obesity account for more than 60% of deaths in the country.

Officials added that many government health facilities, including sub-centres, primary health centres, and community health centres, still operate without digital systems. The new platform aims to bring these facilities into the national digital health network.
