Government Backs GCC Expansion Across India: Finance Minister

Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman has assured full support to expand the footprint of Global Capability Centres (GCCs) across India, especially into tier 2 and tier 3 cities. This move is aimed at unlocking regional talent and promoting inclusive economic growth beyond metro hubs.

As part of this vision, the government is encouraging developers and companies to bring high-value GCC operations to emerging cities. The expansion is expected to accelerate job creation and open up new opportunities in the digital and tech space across smaller towns.

According to Goldman Sachs, GCCs in India have the potential to add nearly $0.5 trillion to the country’s gross value added over the next decade. This positions GCCs as a key driver in India’s journey towards becoming a $10 trillion economy.

In a major step, Uttar Pradesh is set to host its first-ever GCC Conclave. The state government is offering incentives and has announced a dedicated GCC policy to attract global companies. The initiative is expected to create up to 200,000 new jobs and transform the region into a growing tech hub.

This shift in strategy highlights the central role GCCs will play in shaping India’s economic and technological future. With government support, increasing investments, and participation from global firms, India’s GCC ecosystem is poised for strong and widespread growth.
