Government allocates ₹900 crore for National Satcom Monitoring Facility

The government has approved ₹900 crore to set up a National Satcom Monitoring Facility aimed at protecting India’s data resources and spectrum assets as the satellite communications industry continues to expand. The announcement was made by Union Telecom Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia during the IMC 2025 event.

The new facility will serve as an advanced system to monitor satellite gateways and spectrum usage, ensuring both national security and regulatory compliance. This initiative comes as India witnesses rapid growth in private satellite broadband providers, including Eutelsat OneWeb, Jio Satellite, and Starlink.

The establishment of this Satcom facility aligns with India’s vision to boost its satellite communications sector and strengthen its position in the global market. The government aims to nearly triple the value of the domestic satcom industry from 4.3 billion dollars in 2024 to around 14.8 billion dollars by 2033.

As part of a larger national strategy, this investment will also support efforts to connect 38,260 remote villages through space-enabled broadband networks. The initiative is expected to enhance digital connectivity, bridge rural communication gaps, and promote inclusive access to the internet across the country.

With this development, India seeks to emerge not only as a major hub for satellite communication services but also as an exporter of advanced space communication technologies, contributing to global satcom innovation and security.
