GOSH Charity appoints Richard Grove as its first Chief Technology Officer (CTO)

Richard Grove has been named the first Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of the Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) Charity. By strengthening its capacity to collect money for GOSH and furthering its goal of helping children and young people with complex medical requirements, the appointment will hasten the children’s healthcare charity’s digital transition.

Through its nationwide funding drive, GOSH Charity, which separated from the hospital as an independent legal body in 1998, raises money for GOSH, the UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health, and pediatric health research projects. The charity’s most prosperous year was 2023–2024, when it raised £131 million, a 22% increase from the year before, and made over £80 million in net revenue. It started the “Build it” campaign in 2023. The “Beat it.” campaign, its biggest appeal to yet, is more than halfway to its goal of raising £300 million for a new children’s cancer center.

Grove brings a wealth of digital expertise to the company, most recently from his tenure as Managing Director (Central Government) at Pivotl, a data solutions company specializing in the public sector. He formerly had key digital roles with the Government Digital Service (GDS), the University of London, and digital transformation expert Caution My Blast.

Grove will take up the position at a pivotal moment, joining Chief Executive Louise Parkes’ senior leadership team. He will be in charge of the charity’s data, AI, and technology initiatives while it develops a new organizational plan. His nomination is indicative of the increasing significance of technology in the nonprofit sector, especially with regard to operational effectiveness and fundraising. All charities must deal with the potential and problems posed by developing technology, but most lack the scale of GOSH Charity to hire someone with Grove’s experience.
