Gorakhpur Man forced into cybercrime activities by fraudsters in Cambodia

Fraudsters allegedly forced a young person from Gorakhpur into engaging in cybercrime when he traveled to Cambodia last month in pursuit of work.

Ram Pratap, 25, was held captive after he refused to return to India, and according to the lawsuit his father, Anirudh Singh, filed, his family is now being asked to pay Rs 27 lakh to get him freed.

A relative arranged for Pratap, a native of Gorakhpur’s Matiyaniya Junibi village, to travel to Cambodia via an agency in Bihar, according to the allegation.

Once there, a group of scammers allegedly forced Ram Pratap to commit cybercrime. He was supposedly held hostage after refusing to comply and stating that he wanted to return.

Singh added that the cousin who assisted in planning the trip removed Rs 21,000 to make it easier for his son to return when he told him.

But two days ago, things took a turn for the worst when a call came in requesting an incredible Rs 27 lakh, allegedly for Ram Pratap’s lodging, food, and release costs.

According to Pipraich SHO Purushottam Singh, the first inquiry indicates that the young person was transferred to Cambodia by a family member. “He is still abroad. The father has named the relative in his complaint. A detailed probe is underway,” he said.
