In a fresh push in the intensifying AI race, Google on Thursday introduced Gemini 3.1 Pro, the latest version of its advanced large language model (LLM). The model is currently available in preview and will see a broader release soon, the company confirmed. Early reactions suggest that Gemini 3.1 Pro marks a notable upgrade over Gemini 3, which had already earned recognition as a highly capable AI tool when it launched in November.
According to details shared by the company, Gemini 3.1 Pro has delivered record scores across several independent benchmarks. One of these includes Humanity’s Last Exam, where the new model reportedly performed significantly better than its predecessor. Observers tracking AI model development have pointed out that the performance jump signals meaningful progress in reasoning and complex task handling.
The model also received praise from Brendan Foody, CEO of AI startup Mercor. His company runs APEX, a benchmarking system designed to evaluate how well AI models complete real-world professional tasks. “Gemini 3.1 Pro is now at the top of the APEX-Agents leaderboard,” Foody said in a social media post. He added that the model’s strong results highlight “how quickly agents are improving at real knowledge work.”
The launch comes at a time when competition among leading AI developers is accelerating. Companies such as OpenAI and Anthropic have also rolled out new models focused on agentic capabilities and multi-step reasoning. With Gemini 3.1 Pro, Google appears to be strengthening its position in the rapidly evolving LLM landscape.
