With generative artificial intelligence offering spoken summaries of search results, Google started enabling users to convert internet searches into conversations on Friday.
Google claims its Gemini AI models can rapidly summarize search results in a conversational manner using Audio Overviews.
“An audio overview can help you get a lay of the land, offering a convenient, hands-free way to absorb information whether you’re multitasking or simply prefer an audio experience,” Google said in a blog post.
“We display helpful web pages right within the audio player on the search results page so you can easily dive in and learn more.”
Despite concerns about its ad-based economic model, Google is embracing AI and using generative AI to improve online search.
Recently, Google CEO Sundar Pichai revealed a new AI search option.
Beyond AI Overviews, which show responses to inquiries from the tech giant’s generative AI capabilities above the conventional blue links to websites and advertisements, the search engine’s emerging AI mode goes farther.
According to Pichai, Google has more than 1.5 billion users in many countries since launching AI Overviews in search a little over a year ago.
Google’s foray into generative AI coincides with growing competition from ChatGPT from OpenAI, which has integrated search engine functionality into its well-known chatbot.
