Google has announced that it will build its largest data center outside the United States in Visakhapatnam Andhra Pradesh. The announcement was confirmed by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu who underlined the strategic importance of the project for both the state and India’s digital growth.
The new facility will be the anchor project of a 500 acre technology cluster named Data City being developed in Madhurawada. The goal is to transform Visakhapatnam into a global hub for information technology and artificial intelligence. Google has already acquired 80 acres of land for the project and has signed a memorandum of understanding with the state government to take the lead in this major development.
With an investment expected to reach up to four billion dollars this project represents Google’s largest infrastructure commitment in India and the second largest in Asia after Taiwan and Singapore. The data center will be located near Anandapuram and Bheemili and will be well connected to the upcoming Bhogapuram International Airport.
The development is expected to create thousands of direct and indirect jobs ranging from IT professionals to construction and maintenance workers. It will also include training and skill development initiatives for local youth. The center will be equipped with advanced technologies in artificial intelligence, machine learning and cloud computing to support innovation and digital transformation.
This project marks a significant step for Andhra Pradesh and India in building a strong digital ecosystem. As the construction progresses Visakhapatnam is positioned to become a global destination for digital infrastructure, artificial intelligence and technology advancement. The initiative is expected to set a benchmark for future high scale investments in the country.
