Google to begin development and manufacturing of premium Pixel phones in Vietnam

Google is set to start developing and manufacturing high-end smartphones in Vietnam this year, according to a report citing sources familiar with the matter.

The company already works with a wide network of suppliers in Vietnam that assemble several of its products, including Pixel smartphones. The latest move signals a deeper expansion of Google’s manufacturing and development activities in the country.

According to the report, Google will begin new product introduction activities for its Pixel, Pixel Pro, and Pixel Fold models in Vietnam. Development of the lower-end Pixel A series will continue in China for the time being.

New product introduction is a critical stage in the launch of electronic devices. It involves process development, verification, and refinement before a product enters mass production.

Google already mass-produces high-end smartphones in Vietnam and carries out parts of the verification process there. As a result, shifting more development work and building new devices from the ground up in the country is seen as achievable.

The move highlights Vietnam’s growing role in global electronics manufacturing and reflects Google’s efforts to strengthen its supply chain capabilities beyond a single market.
