At CES 2026 in Las Vegas, Google previewed a new wave of Gemini AI features designed to make TV watching more intuitive, interactive, and hands-free. The updates build on Gemini’s debut on Google TV devices in November and aim to transform how users discover content, learn new topics, and control their TVs.
The new Gemini features will first roll out on select TCL televisions, before expanding to other Google TV devices in the coming months.
Built for large-screen use, Gemini for Google TV enables natural language conversations with the TV. Viewers can ask what to watch, get plot recaps to catch up on a series, or request recommendations based on mixed preferences. Gemini can also help when users remember details like a plot or an actor but not the title. For example, users can ask, “What’s the new hospital drama everyone’s talking about?”
Responses are delivered through a visually rich interface that adapts to each query, combining text, images, video context, and real-time sports updates when relevant.
Google also highlighted the TV’s role beyond entertainment. With Gemini, users can ask educational questions and get narrated, interactive explainers directly on the screen. The experience supports follow-up questions, allowing viewers to explore topics in more depth without leaving the couch.
Gemini will also connect with Google Photos, letting users search their libraries for specific people or moments. Users can apply artistic styles to photos and videos and turn them into cinematic slideshows using AI.
One of the most practical additions is voice-based TV optimization. Instead of navigating menus, users can say things like “the screen is too dim” or “I can’t hear the dialogue,” and Gemini will automatically adjust the relevant settings without interrupting playback.
Google said the new Gemini TV features will require devices running Android TV OS 14 or higher and an active internet connection. Availability will vary by language, country, and device at launch, and users must be signed in with a Google account to access the experience.
