Google has introduced a major upgrade to its AI-powered learning platform, NotebookLM, adding a new Cinematic Video Overviews feature. The update marks one of the biggest enhancements to the platform in recent months, transforming how users generate video content from their study materials.
NotebookLM has been regularly updated across its website and mobile apps. With this latest release, users can now create fully immersive, animated videos instead of the earlier format that only generated multiple static slides with narration.
In a blog post, Pete Aykroyd, Software Engineer on the NotebookLM team, confirmed the rollout. The Cinematic Video Overviews feature allows select users to produce fully animated videos directly from their sources. This upgrade shifts the experience from simple narrated slides to more engaging and dynamic visuals.
The feature is powered by a combination of Gemini 3, Nano Banana Pro, and Veo 3 AI models. Google explained that Gemini acts as a creative director. It generates the script and prompts, while adding structural and stylistic elements suited to the content. “It determines the best narrative, visual style and format, and even refines its own work to ensure consistency,” the post stated.
At present, Cinematic Video Overviews is available only to Google AI Ultra subscribers and supports the English language. It will not work with sources in other languages. The feature is accessible to users aged 18 and above on both the website and mobile apps.
In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, the official NotebookLM account addressed Pro users, saying, “To our faithful Pro users— don’t worry, we haven’t forgotten about you. You’ve always been part of our roadmap. No promises on timing yet, but watch this space!”
Earlier this month, NotebookLM also introduced custom styles for Infographics. The update included 10 preset options along with the ability to create custom styles, enabling users to generate easy-to-read visuals with a single click. Additionally, Slide Revisions were rolled out to the mobile app.
