Google is reportedly preparing to introduce a new feature on the Play Store that will allow users to try paid games before purchasing them. According to a recent APK teardown of the Google Play Store, the company may soon let users play premium games for a limited time at no cost. This feature is expected to be limited to games for now, though it could later expand to paid apps as well. The goal is to help users feel more confident about their purchases.
A tech publication spotted references to a new “Try before you buy” option for games in the Google Play Store version 49.6.19 29. This feature would allow developers to offer free trials of their games for a set period. After the trial ends, users can choose to buy the full version.
Another line found in the code reads “Pick up where you left off if you decide to buy.” This suggests that players will be able to continue their progress from the trial once they purchase the game.
Reports indicate that each user will be allowed one trial per game. The trial length could range from a few minutes to a few hours. If users try to access the trial again, they may see a message saying “You already used the trial.” While the feature is currently focused on games, it may also be extended to paid apps in the future.
This option is expected to be optional for developers. It could help players discover new games and allow creators to showcase gameplay quality, which may improve purchase rates.
In addition to this, Google is planning other updates for the Play Store this year. From March 1, 2026, apps that cause excessive battery drain will show warnings on their listings. These apps will also be removed from recommendation sections to guide users towards more efficient options.
