Google has announced a series of gaming-focused updates for Google Play during Game Developers Conference 2026. The company revealed plans to expand its platform with more paid and PC indie games, introduce game trials, launch a “buy once, play anywhere” pricing model, add a wishlist feature and roll out community posts. These updates signal Google’s efforts to transform Google Play into a more comprehensive gaming hub.
The new changes aim to let players try games before purchasing, play titles across mobile and PC, sync their progress and interact with other players within the same platform. Google said its catalog will expand in the coming months to include more paid games such as Moonlight Peaks, Sledding Game, 9 Kings, Potion Craft and Low-Budget Repairs. These titles will be playable on both mobile and PC through Google Play Games, with player progress syncing automatically through the Gamer Profile feature.
To help users decide before making a purchase, Google is launching game trials for select paid titles on mobile devices. Players will be able to test a game and, if they choose to buy it, continue from the exact point where the trial ended. The company also introduced a “Buy once, play anywhere” pricing model that provides both mobile and PC versions with a single purchase. This option is initially rolling out for selected games, including the Reigns, OTTTD and Dungeon Clawler. For PC players, Google is also adding a new PC section inside the Games tab of the Play Store to highlight titles optimized for Windows PCs. Users can also add games to a wishlist and receive alerts when they go on sale.
The company is further expanding social and AI-powered features within the platform. Google is introducing community posts so players can ask and answer questions directly on the app store, similar to discussions that often take place on platforms like Reddit. The feature is currently available in English for select popular games, with support for more languages coming later. Google is also bringing its AI-powered Play Games Sidekick, announced last year, to select paid titles. The overlay provides real-time assistance using Gemini Live. These updates follow a redesigned Play Games experience launched 6 months ago, which introduced a new Games tab for tracking stats, achievements and rewards, along with Play Games Leagues that allow players to compete with friends for Play Points rewards. The update also included a revamped Apps tab and AI-powered features such as “Guided Search,” which helps users find apps or games by describing a goal or idea instead of typing the exact name.
