Google Photos has expanded its artificial intelligence (AI)-powered editing tools to more Android devices, allowing users to transform their images with simple prompts instead of complex manual tools. The tech giant highlighted ten creative ways users can enhance their photos using these new AI features, demonstrating how easy it is to edit pictures by simply typing or speaking a request.
The new editing options are part of the “Ask Photos” feature, which uses advanced AI models to understand and execute user commands. However, the company clarified that the feature is currently available only to users above 18 years of age in the United States who have their Google Account language set to English (US). They must also enable location estimates and Face Groups to access the feature.
In a recent blog post, Google shared ten different ways users can enhance their images using AI in Google Photos.
- Remove reflections: The AI can automatically detect and remove window reflections or other distortions that affect image quality.
- Reduce background noise: It removes visual noise from photos taken in low light or with poor camera quality.
- Enhance lighting: Users can add a studio lighting effect to selfies and portraits.
- Expand images: Similar to Adobe’s expansion feature, the app can widen a photo’s frame when it feels too tight.
- Change room decor: With a simple prompt, users can visualise different furniture or decorations in a room.
- Add elements: The tool can insert new objects or scenery into an image based on user prompts.
- Change outfits: Using Gemini Nano Banana, it can alter a subject’s outfit completely.
- Restore old photos: It can repair and enhance old or faded photos with a single command.
- Make multiple edits: The AI can perform several editing tasks within a single prompt.
- Change backgrounds: The feature can replace the original background with a completely new one chosen by the user.
With these tools, Google aims to make photo editing simpler, faster, and more accessible to everyday users, reflecting the growing integration of AI in creative workflows.
