Google Messages to add real-time location sharing via Find Hub

Google Messages is preparing to introduce real-time location sharing powered by Find Hub, aiming to create a more integrated experience for Android users.

According to an APK teardown of the latest beta version (20260220_01_RC00), new code strings point to live location sharing directly within chats. Currently, tapping the “plus” menu and selecting “Location” only sends a static Google Maps link showing your current position.

The upcoming update suggests that users will soon be able to share their live location without leaving the Messages app.

The feature appears to replicate the existing Find Hub experience inside Google Messages. It may include a built-in map view for smoother interaction. Sharing durations remain unchanged, with options such as “For 1 hour,” “Today only,” and “Until you turn this off.” Link-based sharing will also continue to be available.

While the code strings are present in the beta release, the feature is not yet live for users.

In a related development, Find Hub version 3.1.532-3 has rolled out more widely. The update suggests that additional functionality currently seen in Google Maps could soon arrive in the standalone Find Hub app. One key missing feature today is location alerts, which notify users when someone arrives at or leaves a specific place.

The changes indicate that Google may centralise its location-sharing ecosystem around Find Hub, with tighter integration across its messaging and mapping platforms.
