Google Meet’s new AI tool lets you wear virtual makeup and cut beauty costs

Google Meet is rolling out an AI-powered makeup feature that lets users apply virtual foundation, blush, and lipstick before joining a call. The tool is designed to look realistic, adapt to lighting and movement, and offers 12 preset looks for different occasions.

Building on last year’s “Touch-up mode,” which focused on lighting and skin smoothing, the new feature uses advanced AI to analyse facial features and surroundings to create a natural, studio-like finish. Unlike typical filters that can appear artificial, Google’s AI makeup adjusts subtly as you move, talk, or tilt your head.

The 12 preset looks range from understated professional tones for meetings to bold styles for casual calls. The real-time adaptation ensures users appear confident and camera-ready without needing actual cosmetics or worrying about lighting conditions.

The feature will be available from October 8 on both web and mobile versions of Google Meet. Access is limited to specific account types, including Workspace Business Standard and Plus, Enterprise Starter, Standard, and Plus, Education Plus, Teaching and Learning add-on, Enterprise Essentials, and Google One premium subscribers.

By default, the AI makeup tool is off. Users can enable it before or during a meeting, and their chosen look is saved for future calls. This makes it convenient for regular meetings but also means users should double-check settings to avoid appearing with an unintended style in important presentations.

The launch highlights how AI is increasingly being used to enhance virtual interactions while offering practical benefits like reduced time and cost for personal grooming.
