Google launches Veo 3.1 and upgrades Flow to enhance AI video creation

Google has unveiled Veo 3.1, the latest version of its AI-powered video generation model, along with major updates to its Flow filmmaking tool. The enhancements aim to make video creation more cinematic, realistic, and user-friendly, enabling creators to produce professional-quality visuals with minimal effort.

Built on the Veo 3 model introduced at Google I/O 2025, Veo 3.1 delivers significant improvements in both audio and visual quality. The model now generates videos with lifelike textures, dynamic lighting, and enhanced storytelling, giving creators greater control over cinematic styles and scene composition. The image-to-video feature has also been refined to follow prompts more accurately, producing smoother visuals and sound.

Veo 3.1 is available in two versions: Veo 3.1 and Veo 3.1 Fast, accessible via the Gemini app, Gemini API, and Vertex AI. The model supports both text-to-video and image-to-video creation in horizontal (16:9) and vertical (9:16) formats.

Flow update

Google has also upgraded its AI filmmaking tool, Flow, with new editing capabilities. Users can now insert objects or characters into scenes, with AI automatically adjusting lighting and shadows to make the additions appear natural. The update also allows creators to remove objects or people, with Flow seamlessly recreating the background.

Flow now supports audio generation in its main tools:

  • Ingredients to Video: Combines multiple reference images to create scenes with several objects, characters, and styles.

  • Frames to Video: Lets users select starting and ending frames, and Flow generates smooth motion between them.

  • Scene Extension: Extends a video clip naturally beyond its final moments, maintaining continuity.

With these updates, Google aims to empower creators to produce richer, more dynamic, and professional-looking videos using AI-driven tools.
