A new artificial intelligence experiment from Google Labs is aiming to simplify how users manage daily tasks and information. On Tuesday, the company introduced an experimental AI agent inside Gmail called CC, designed to work across several Google platforms and the Internet.
The AI agent operates within Gmail and can connect with Calendar, Drive, Photos, and online sources. By analysing and processing user data, CC prepares daily summaries that highlight key tasks and important updates. Users can also influence how the agent behaves by sending instructions directly to it through email.
In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, the official Google Labs account announced that CC is now available in Canada and the US. Access is limited to users aged above 18 who are subscribed to Google AI Pro and AI Ultra plans. The rollout is part of an early access phase, and the company plans to expand availability to more regions and users in the future. Interested users can also join a waitlist.
Google Labs described CC as a productivity focused AI agent built using Gemini. The tool brings together context from Gmail, Calendar, and Drive to understand a user’s schedule and priorities. It tracks emails, upcoming meetings, ongoing projects stored in Drive, and calendar events to identify tasks or updates that need attention on a given day.
Each morning, the AI agent creates a short list style summary of tasks and shares it as a morning brief. Google also said that CC can access the Internet to gain broader context about the user’s environment and deliver more personalised information. Users can email CC with specific instructions, and the agent updates its morning brief to reflect those inputs.
Despite its capabilities, the tool has clear limits. While CC can collect and analyse information from multiple sources, it cannot take actions on behalf of the user. It cannot reply to emails, attend meetings, or perform tasks that require direct user involvement.
