Google-Kantar report reveals a significant untapped potential for Gen AI in India

Only 31% of respondents had used any Gen AI tools, according to a research published by Google and Kantar, and 60% of respondents are not aware with AI, indicating space for improvement. According to the research, 75% of Indians said they would like to see AI used as a daily growth collaborator.

The study investigated the uptake, potential, and effects of generative artificial intelligence (Gen AI) in India by surveying more than 8,000 people in 18 different cities. The study shows that Indians are very motivated to enhance many facets of their life, even in spite of the low adoption rates at the moment.

Most respondents said they were very interested in increasing their daily routines’ productivity (72%), creativity (77%), and communication (73%). This ambition goes beyond academic or professional goals; 84% of respondents want to be more creative in their personal life, and 76% want to save time on daily activities.

Early adopters of Google GenAI tools report positive impact

Early users of Google’s Gen AI tool, Gemini, are already seeing notable benefits, according to the article. In India, an astounding 92% of Gemini users said their confidence had increased, 93% said their productivity had increased, and 85% said it had inspired their creativity.

These results imply that the need for a collaborative guide in people’s lives is being met more and more by AI technologies like Gemini.

Alongside the publication of the report, Google also discussed a number of new Gemini features that are fueled by its cutting-edge AI models. These include improved capabilities inside Gemini’s Canvas, Deep Research, and Audio Overviews features; Veo 2 for creating high-resolution videos from ideas; and Gemini Live with Video for visual interactions that are easy to understand. NotebookLM was also emphasized as a specialized AI-powered study aid.

According to the report, major obstacles to personal development in India include a lack of skills and direction (52%), as well as difficulty getting started (68%). 61% of respondents said they had given up on a creative or professional goal as a result of these difficulties, which frequently cause people to give up on their goals.

Additionally, everyday friction affects confidence and engagement. Examples include worries about message delivery (73%) and difficulties following interests like cooking (71%) or trip planning (67%). Early Gemini users’ reports of good effects point to a possible solution to get over these obstacles and realize personal potential.
