Google introduces urgent call alerts and AI reasoning tools

Google is expanding its phone and artificial intelligence features with a fresh update that focuses on making important calls harder to miss while also delivering stronger reasoning abilities for advanced users through its AI platform.

The company has started rolling out Expressive Calling to select users enrolled in the Phone by Google beta programme, according to a report. The feature adds visual effects and vibration feedback to incoming calls to make them more noticeable. Users can find the option by opening Phone Settings, tapping General and scrolling to Expressive Calling. The main switch is enabled by default and an optional setting lets urgent calls override Do Not Disturb mode.

At this stage, Expressive Calling works only when both the caller and the receiver are using the beta version of the Phone by Google app, reportedly version 203. When placing a call, eligible users are asked if they want to mark it as urgent. If chosen, the recipient sees an “It’s urgent!” message on the incoming call screen along with an animated siren emoji. Missed calls are later tagged as urgent in the call history, helping users quickly spot important calls they did not answer.

Alongside this, Google has officially introduced Gemini 3 Deep Think within the Gemini app earlier this month. The new reasoning mode is available exclusively to subscribers of the Google AI Ultra plan and is aimed at users handling complex tasks in mathematics, science and logical problem solving. Google says Deep Think improves performance by running multiple lines of reasoning at the same time. According to the company, it scores 41.0% on Humanity’s Last Exam without tools and 45.1% on the ARC AGI 2 test with code execution enabled, setting a new benchmark for advanced AI reasoning.
