In a move to improve chat management, Google is testing a new “Projects” feature in Gemini that allows users to organise conversations into folders, similar to ChatGPT.
The feature aims to address a common challenge for frequent users who handle multiple chats across different topics, making it difficult to locate specific conversations quickly.
First spotted in testing in December, “Projects” enables users to group chats into dedicated folders based on use or relevance. The feature now appears to be rolling out to a limited set of users.
According to user reports, an “Add to project” option is now visible in Gemini’s web interface. When hovering over a chat, users can access a menu with options like “Share Conversation,” “Pin,” “Rename,” and “Delete,” along with the new project option.
Selecting this option opens a pop-up that allows users to assign chats to existing projects. However, the ability to create a new project is not yet visible, suggesting the feature may still be under development.
Further confirmation from tipster accounts indicates that the feature has surfaced in the interface, though it may not be fully functional and could be part of a limited or unintended rollout.
Earlier findings also suggest that Google may rename “Projects” to “Notebooks,” aligning it with its NotebookLM platform.
The update reflects growing competition among AI chatbot platforms like Gemini, Claude, and ChatGPT, with companies increasingly adding productivity-focused features to enhance user experience.
While there is no official timeline for a wider rollout, the early appearance of the feature indicates that Google is actively working to bring structured chat organisation to Gemini users.
