Google is reportedly working on a major redesign for its Gemini app, featuring a new Instagram-style scrollable feed. The update could make the AI chatbot more visually engaging and user-friendly, similar to how OpenAI’s Sora has drawn attention with its sleek interface after topping the Apple App Store charts in the United States.
According to a recent report, Google is testing a redesigned Gemini home screen that includes a scrollable feed of prompts, a welcome message, and shortcuts to tools such as Create Image and Deep Research. The redesign, which is not yet live, was discovered by a reverse engineer who enabled it by modifying the app’s internal code.
Screenshots of the new interface reveal sample prompts like “Teleport me to deep space”, “Give me a vintage grunge look”, and “Quiz me on basic biology”. These examples highlight Gemini’s wide range of abilities, from image generation and coding to research and quizzes.
The new design appears to be part of Google’s efforts to make Gemini more visually appealing while helping users better understand what the chatbot can do. The scrollable feed may also help introduce users to Gemini’s diverse capabilities through an interactive and creative experience.
However, since the redesign was uncovered during an APK teardown, there is no confirmation yet on when, or if, it will officially roll out to users. If launched, the updated interface could give Gemini a competitive edge over other AI chatbots like ChatGPT and DeepSeek, which still use simpler, text-based layouts.
Recently, Gemini achieved the top position on both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store in India, following the release of Google’s Nano Banana editing update, which has reportedly been used over 500 million times since launch. Google also announced plans to integrate Gemini with Chrome, introducing advanced AI capabilities directly into the world’s most widely used web browser.
The upcoming design changes suggest that Google is looking to expand Gemini’s appeal beyond functionality — turning it into a more immersive, visually rich experience that encourages user exploration.
