Google expands Live Translate to iOS, brings real-time headphone translation to more countries

In a major update to its language tools, Google has expanded its “Live Translate” feature to iOS and multiple new markets, making real-time headphone translations more widely accessible.

The AI-powered feature, available through Google Translate, now supports both Android and iOS users across countries including the U.S., India, Mexico, Germany, Spain, France, Nigeria, Italy, the United Kingdom, Japan, Bangladesh and Thailand. Earlier, it was limited to Android users in select regions.

Live Translate allows users to hear real-time translations directly through their headphones, effectively turning them into a one-way translation device. Powered by Google’s Gemini AI, the feature preserves tone, emphasis and cadence, helping users better understand conversations and distinguish speakers.

The tool works with any pair of headphones and supports over 70 languages. Users can access it by opening the Google Translate app, selecting “Live Translate,” and connecting their headphones.

Google highlights everyday use cases such as following conversations with people who speak different languages or understanding public announcements while travelling.

Alongside this update, Google has also expanded its AI-powered conversational search feature, Search Live, to over 200 countries and territories. The feature enables users to point their phone camera at objects and receive real-time, context-aware assistance through interactive conversations.

With these updates, Google continues to push AI-driven communication tools that make real-time translation and search more intuitive and globally accessible.
