Google has announced a major upgrade to its AI-powered shopping tools, introducing virtual shoe try-ons as part of its expanding suite of artificial intelligence shopping features. The new update allows users to visualise how a pair of shoes would look on them, enhancing the convenience and personalisation of online shopping.
The company shared the update in a post on its official blog, stating that shoppers can now use the AI-powered “try-on” feature to preview shoes before making a purchase. The process is simple: users upload a full-length photo, and Google’s AI generates a realistic image showing how the selected shoes would appear when worn. This image can then be saved or shared for opinions and feedback.
The new feature builds on Google’s earlier virtual apparel try-on tool, which was introduced through Google Labs and rolled out widely by July. Initially, it enabled users to try on clothes and accessories virtually, providing a glimpse of how garments would fit across a variety of body types using diverse models. With footwear now added, Google aims to create a more immersive and realistic online shopping experience.
To use the feature, shoppers can search for a pair of shoes, tap the Try It On button, and upload their photo. Within seconds, the platform displays a digital version of the user wearing the selected shoes, making the online buying process more interactive and engaging.
This latest expansion follows Google’s launch of Doppl, an experimental app introduced in June. Built on the same generative AI technology, Doppl allows users to see how different outfits might look on them, even creating AI-generated videos to show how the clothes move in real life. The addition of footwear to Google’s virtual try-on tool marks another step toward merging AI and fashion to help users make more informed and confident shopping decisions.
With this new capability, Google continues to refine its AI-driven retail ecosystem, making virtual shopping more intuitive, personalised, and visually accurate for users worldwide.
