Creative photo editing is becoming more accessible as Google rolls out its prompt-based AI editing feature in Google Photos to users in India, Australia, and Japan. The feature was earlier introduced in the US and is now reaching more global users.
With this update, Google Photos users can edit images by simply typing or speaking natural language prompts. The tool is designed to make advanced photo edits quicker and easier, without the need to manually adjust multiple settings or sliders. Google highlighted this capability in a blog post, stating, “Using this new conversational editing experience in Google Photos is just one of the many ways to get creative with your images. Just open an image, tap “Help me edit” in the editor, and tell it what to do either by typing or talking.”
To help users understand how the feature works, Google has shared 10 examples of prompts that can be used within Google Photos. These include removing reflections from windows to clear distractions, eliminating unwanted background elements like fences, old timestamps, or visual noise, and sharpening images in a single step. Users can also improve selfies by adding studio-style lighting for a more polished look.
The AI-powered tool can adjust framing by expanding the composition when a photo feels too tight. It also allows users to visualise interior changes by adding furniture or lighting to room photos, helping them preview potential decor updates. For creative edits, users can transform scenes by adding fun elements, such as turning a grassy hill into a field of sunflowers.
The feature also supports playful and imaginative edits. Users can dress pets in festive costumes, restore faded old photos using a simple prompt, or combine multiple edits into one instruction instead of making changes one by one. Google even showcased extreme creative freedom, like turning a photo of a dog skiing in the snow into a scene set on the moon with a spaceship and Earth in the background.
By expanding this feature to India and other regions, Google is bringing advanced AI photo editing to more users, making creativity simpler and more intuitive through conversation-based commands.
