Google has expanded its AI-powered Search experience, AI Mode, to five new languages, giving global users wider access after being restricted to English for more than six months.
The company announced on Monday that AI Mode now supports Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, and Brazilian Portuguese. This comes shortly after its rollout in 180 markets in English, following its initial launch in the United States before reaching the United Kingdom and India.
“With this expansion, more people can now use AI Mode to ask complex questions in their preferred language, while exploring the web more deeply,” said Hema Budaraju, Vice President of Product Management at Google Search, in a blog post.
AI Mode was first launched in March as an experiment for Google One AI Premium subscribers and is seen as Google’s response to emerging AI-powered search platforms. The feature uses a customised version of Gemini 2.5, offering multimodal and reasoning capabilities.
In August, AI Mode introduced new “agentic” features, including restaurant reservations, with plans to extend support for service appointments and event ticket bookings. These functions are currently available only in the United States for Google AI Ultra subscribers through an experimental Labs programme. The Ultra plan is priced at $249.99 per month.
At present, AI Mode can be accessed through a dedicated tab on the search results page and a button in the search bar. Google is reportedly preparing to make this AI-driven experience the default option “soon,” according to a company product manager’s response to a user post last week.
While some critics argue that AI updates like AI Mode and AI Overviews reduce website traffic, Google has denied these claims, maintaining that its AI-driven search tools are designed to enhance the overall user experience.
