Google is enhancing its Search, Maps, and Gemini platforms with five new AI-powered features

Several of the five new capabilities that Google is introducing across its Search, Maps, and Gemini platforms are driven by artificial intelligence (AI). The improvements are designed to make consumers’ summer vacation planning easier and better.

AI Overviews in Search for trip planning

Google Search is getting a big boost thanks to AI Overviews, which can now come up with travel suggestions for whole nations or regions. To get AI-generated recommendations, users may now start queries like “make an itinerary for Himachal Pradesh with a focus on treks.” According to Google, users may examine places on an interactive map, peruse images and reviews, export itineraries to Docs or Gmail, or save them as custom lists in Google Maps.

For English-language questions in the US, this AI-powered travel planning tool is accessible on desktop and mobile devices.

Google brings hotel price tracking for budget-conscious travelers

Based on the popularity of aircraft price monitoring, Google is launching hotel price tracking. Visitors to google.com/hotels will now have the ability to track hotel rates for the dates and locations of their choice. User-selected criteria, including beach access and star ratings, will be taken into consideration by the algorithm. Google will notify consumers via email if costs decrease.

This week, the hotel pricing tracking function will be made available on desktop and mobile browsers worldwide.

Maps can use AI to turn screenshots into travel plans

The capability to turn user screenshots into physical trip plans is being added to Google Maps. Maps will now have the ability to automatically identify locations referenced in user-taken pictures of possible destinations provided the user grants permission.

After that, users may examine and add these locations to a list, which will appear on the map for convenient sharing and trip planning. This week, the English-language iOS version of this functionality will begin rolling out in the US; an Android version will follow shortly.

Google Lens will now provide AI Overviews

In response to user inquiries about their environment, Google Lens in the Google app (iOS and Android) may now offer AI Overviews. When pointing their camera at an item, users can pose queries such : “what are these used for?” to obtain pertinent online resources and information produced by AI. According to Google, Lens is also improving its translation features, enabling users to instantly translate language on menus, signs, and other items. English questions may now access AI Overviews in Lens, and more languages will shortly follow.

Gemini now provides AI-powered travel assistance though Gems

All users will get free access to Google’s Gems feature. With Gems, people may build their own AI specialists in Gemini. This lets users make their own customized travel planner, which may help with packing ideas, choosing a vacation, and more. Gemini is also useful for more general travel ideas, including identifying the most affordable flights or recommending YouTube videos for low-cost travel advice. All desktop users now have access to gems.
