In a move that strengthens its push into real-world AI applications, Google DeepMind has partnered with Agile Robots to advance robotics technology using AI.
The collaboration will integrate Gemini Robotics foundation models with Agile Robots’ intelligent, sensor-based robotic arms and humanoid systems. The partnership focuses on combining AI software with physical hardware to improve robot performance through deployment, data collection, model training, and iteration.
“The partnership is built on a belief that applying AI in the physical world will be transformative,” the company said in a blog post. “By bringing together Agile Robots’ hardware and other AI robotic solutions developed in Germany, with Google DeepMind’s Gemini Robotics foundation models, the two teams will improve performance via robot deployment, data collection, model training and iteration.”
This collaboration will also give Google access to real-world deployment data, which is critical as robotics becomes a key use case for AI. The move places Google in direct competition with companies like Amazon and Tesla, both of which are actively investing in robotics.
Munich-based Agile Robots already has more than 20,000 robotic systems deployed globally. As part of the partnership, it will integrate Google’s AI models into its existing industrial robots at scale. The initial focus will be on high-value industrial applications, especially in manufacturing.
“This research partnership is an important step in bringing the impact of AI to the real world,” said Carolina Parada. She added that Agile Robots will help Google develop “more advanced AI models for the next generation of robots.”
The partnership reflects Google’s broader strategy to expand its presence in robotics and manufacturing, positioning AI as a core driver of innovation in physical environments.
