Google DeepMind introduces Lyria 3 to enable AI music creation inside Gemini

Expanding the role of generative AI in creative tools, Google DeepMind has unveiled Lyria 3, a new AI music generation model designed to simplify how users create original audio content. The company announced that the model is now integrated into the Gemini app across Android and iOS platforms.

According to the company, Lyria 3 allows users to generate high-quality music tracks using simple text prompts. The tool is aimed at creators producing content for social media, videos, and digital storytelling, using multimodal generative AI capabilities.

Lyria 3 enables users to create up to 30-second original tracks by describing elements such as genre, mood, tempo, or instruments. The system converts prompts into fully produced audio clips featuring layered instrumentation and refined sound output. Compared to earlier versions, the model introduces automatic lyric generation and offers greater control over style, vocals, and tempo, along with improved audio quality and stronger coherence across longer compositions.

The model also expands beyond text-based creation. Users can generate music inspired by photos or videos, allowing visuals such as a sunset image or travel clip to guide the soundtrack’s tone and atmosphere. Each track can include AI-generated cover art, helping creators package and share content more easily.

Google is also extending Lyria’s capabilities to YouTube Dream Track, enabling creators to experiment with AI-generated music for Shorts and other formats using similar technology.

To address authenticity concerns, Google has embedded its SynthID watermarking system into all Lyria 3 outputs. The technology invisibly tags audio with metadata to identify it as AI-generated, supporting transparency and responsible use.

The launch is part of Google’s broader push toward multimodal AI, combining text, image, audio, and video generation within a unified platform. Lyria 3 is currently available on desktop in the Gemini app for users aged 18 and above in English, German, Spanish, French, Hindi, Japanese, Korean, and Portuguese. Rollout for Android and iOS will continue over the next few days, with higher usage limits available to Google AI Plus, Pro, and Ultra subscribers.
