Google has added a new option in Google Calendar that allows users to duplicate events, following a direct request from Stripe co founder John Collison. The update was announced by Google CEO Sundar Pichai in a post on X on Wednesday.
On July 5, Collison had posted on X asking whether Google Calendar could introduce a Ctrl click option to quickly duplicate events, similar to what many native calendar apps already provide. He tagged Pichai in his post, sparking attention from both users and tech enthusiasts.
While tagging companies and executives online is common, it is rare for a CEO to respond personally and implement the suggestion. In this case, Pichai confirmed the update, writing, “This feature is now live for everyone on Google Calendar on the web — thanks for the suggestion!”
The interaction quickly caught the attention of social media users, with some making light hearted comments about Collison’s apparent influence. One user jokingly asked him to help solve unrelated issues, while another quipped about transportation challenges in Silicon Valley.
Box CEO Aaron Levie joined in, writing, “John, can you ask Waymo to work on El Camino through the peninsula? Thanks!” — a reference to the busy highway and self driving car availability in the region.
The new duplication feature is available immediately for all Google Calendar users on the web, making it easier to replicate recurring events without having to manually re enter details.
